Webinar on 01.10.2019 at 11:00 CEST: 5GCAR Part 1 - Demonstrations

5GCAR has investigated and proved the added value of 5G for connected cars from multiple perspectives, spanning business models, spectrum matters, innovative solutions for the radio access network, the system architecture, and the security and privacy framework.

This webinar on Tuesday 01 October 2019 at 11:00 CEST zooms in on the results achieved by the 5GCAR project, a 5G PPP phase 2 project that conducted four demonstrations on 27 June 2019 at the automotive test track in Linas Monthléry near Paris.

Each demonstration focused on a specific automotive use case:

  • Lane merge use case for cooperative manoeuvres.
  • See-through and long range sensor sharing for cooperative perception.
  • Vulnerable road user protection.

An end-to-end implementation for each use case was done, enabling a detailed analysis of the feasibility of said solutions, focusing on the challenges to be addressed in a real deployment. Various 5G concepts were applied to the demonstration design of these use cases and implemented in a realistic environment on the automotive test track.

11:00-11:05 - Chair: Mikael Fallgren, Senior Researcher, Ericsson Research: Welcome and focus of the webinar.

11:05-11:50 - Panellist: Bastian Cellarius, Senior Researcher, Ericsson Research: The 5GCAR Demonstrations

11:50-12:00 - Q&A with Chair and Panellist

Chair and Panellist Profiles

Mikael Fallgren is a Senior Researcher at Ericsson Research. He received a M.Sc. degree in engineering physics and a Ph.D. degree in applied and computational mathematics from KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm, and a B.Sc. degree in business administration from Stockholm University. His research interests include V2X and wireless access networks. He has served as Coordinator of 5GCAR.
Bastian Cellarius graduated from RWTH Aachen University in 2015 with a M.Sc. in Communications Engineering. He  started working at Ericsson Germany after his graduation, with an initial focus on media compression and delivery, particularly in relation to Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS). As Senior Researcher at Ericsson, he now works in the field of end-to-end cellular communication systems for the automotive sector. One focus topic is the large data volume delivery optimizations in cellular networks, while at the same time he works on system design for C-ITS applications and coordinated driving. In 5GCAR, Bastian has served as leader of the demonstration activities.
